N.J.-S.P. School Board Approves Digital Device Rental Contract, Repair Policy

North Judson-San Pierre students planning to use virtual learning this year will be able to rent a digital device from the school. A contract outlining those arrangements between families and the school corporation was recently approved by the school board, at the recommendation of Superintendent Dr. Annette Zupin.

“Our devices have not gone home with students,” Zupin explained. “We called them ‘devices on demand.’ They were here at school, and we weren’t the one-to-one, where we send them home. We realized that students who are choosing to go virtually during the 2020-2021 school year may not have devices.” Under the new contract, students issued a computer for use during the pandemic will be charged $75 for the year.

Additionally, the school board approved a policy requiring families to cover the cost of repairs to the schools’ technology devices, if they’re damaged due to students’ negligence. “This was a new policy to cover repairs because, last year, we did not have a policy and N.J.-S.P. absorbed that and now we have an idea of cost,” Zupin said.

North Judson-San Pierre’s first day of class is scheduled for Wednesday, August 12.
