The North Judson-Wayne Township Volunteer Fire Department’s agreement with Rich Grove Township will stay the same for another year. A fire service contract was recently signed by the North Judson Town Council.
Clerk-Treasurer Andrew Rowe told council members that Rich Grove Township officials had the contract for quite a while, before returning it to the town for final approval. While many fire service contracts include a fixed annual fee, Rich Grove Township pays North Judson $660 per call. The township’s bill reportedly jumped by about $16,000 last year, following an increase in calls.
There have been discussions about switching to a fixed fee, but Fire Chief Joe Leszek said he and Rowe ultimately decided not to make any changes, since the township was so late in getting the contract back. Possible changes could be discussed with the town council next year.
