Opponents of a proposed solar energy development rallied support Thursday, ahead of an upcoming vote by the Pulaski County Board of Zoning Appeals. Dozens gathered at the Winamac Town Park to hear about some potential drawbacks of the 4,500-acre Mammoth Solar project. Concerns included fire protection, property values, and the proposed development’s size.
Opponents want the county to revisit the solar regulations in its Unified Development Ordinance. No one voiced opposition during the advisory plan commission’s public hearing on them back in November.
The BZA is expected to vote on the project’s special exception request on August 24, after members decided to hold off on a decision last month.
