Starke County Commissioners to Meet Tonight

The Starke County Commissioners will review a driveway permit ordinance when they meet tonight.

Surveyor Bill Crase brought the ordinance before the commissioners at their last meeting in July that would require a permit for the installation of all driveways in the county.  The permit would be issued by the Starke County Planning Commission which includes all zoning districts and types, including dirt, stone, concrete, and asphalt.

Crase said the ordinance would be sure that the installation is safe and effective for everyone.  There are fines of no less than $50 and no more than $100 if the ordinance is violated.  A permit fee of $25 was also discussed.  At the time, the commissioners asked to look at it and discuss it more tonight.

In other business, the commissioners will get an update on the broadband plan from Shawn Cain from KIRPC.  Starke County Prosecutor Leslie Baker will have job descriptions ready for a DART officer and a request to apply for a grant.

The commissioners will talk more about a review of the existing conditions of the Starke County Economic Development Foundation, plus an economic snapshot and stakeholder interviews and analysis to be done by Thomas P. Miller and Associates at a cost of $10,000.  The county’s share is little more than half of the cost with the other half to be paid by the foundation.

Additionally, the commissioners will consider an employee appreciation resolution and a meal delivery resolution.  EMS Director Travis Clary and Clerk Mary Lynn Ritchie, and Highway Superintendent Rik Ritzler will present their monthly reports.

The Starke County Commissioners will meet at 6 p.m. CT tonight in the ground floor meeting room in the Starke County Annex No. 1 building at 53 E. Mound Street in Knox.
