Health Officials Urge Residents to Get Flu Vaccine

Health officials are urging residents to get their influenza vaccine this flu season.

Influenza can have varying degrees of signs and symptoms including fever, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, headache and/or vomiting and diarrhea.

Symptoms are closely related to COVID-19 so see a physician to determine the right course of action.

Children who are at least five years of age should receive a vaccine, as well as adults over the age of 50, individuals who are immunocompromised, pregnant women, children at risk for Reye Syndrome associated with the flu, residents of nursing homes and long-term care facilities, residents who are clinically obese, caregivers, and health care workers.

Indiana State Health Commissioner Dr. Kristina Box said in a COVID-19 media briefing this week that getting the flu vaccine this fall is critical.  Marshall County Health Administrator Ashley Garcia also noted the importance of getting a flu shot as soon as possible.
