The owners of 401 East Lake Street in Knox could have to pay a $2,500 penalty, after city officials say they failed to make necessary repairs for the past year. Director of Building and Code Compliance Kenny Pfost told the board of works last month that he issued an order to repair the home last September, after getting numerous complaints about birds flying in and out through holes in the walls. Specifically, the owners were asked to finish the exterior siding, roof, and roof framing.
Pfost said that a lot of the junk in the yard and on the porch has been cleaned up. But he said progress had stopped, and the owners won’t return phone calls. The board of works found that the owners were not in compliance with the order and assessed a $2,500 penalty.
Meanwhile, City Attorney Autumn Ferch reported that a judicial review hearing on a garage on 204 West Bender Street has been scheduled for September 30 in Starke Circuit Court. She also said that no progress had been made on the house at that address. The owner had until last Friday to complete that work.
On the other hand, Pfost said quite a bit of progress had been made at 253 East Washington Street. He said the west wall that had been open has now been closed and stabilized, and house wrap was placed on the lower portion. Pfost said work there was on-schedule, as of last month’s meeting.
