Local Schools Among Recipients of Secured School Safety Grants

Indiana has awarded more than $19 million in this year’s round of Secured School Safety Grants. The Culver Community Schools Corporation got the biggest share of that locally, with $100,000. The West Central School Corporation got $40,000.

St. Peter Lutheran School in North Judson was awarded $35,000, while North Judson-San Pierre received almost $33,000. The Knox Community School Corporation got almost $20,000, while Oregon-Davis got just under $15,000.

Secured School Safety Grants can be used for a variety of purposes, such as paying a school resource officer, conducting a threat assessment, buying equipment to restrict access to schools, or even helping to pay for firearms training for teachers and staff.

The Indiana Department of Homeland Security says 418 schools had all of their eligible top-priority projects fully funded this year. Threat assessments and projects aimed at providing health and wellness support services also got full funding. The Secured School Safety Grant program has now provided more than $91 million to Indiana schools since 2013.
