Mass Mailings of Absentee Ballot Applications Prompt Clarification from Election Officials

Mass mailings of absentee ballot applications have prompted some clarification from Pulaski County election officials. Clerk JoLynn Behny says her office has learned that several groups, including both major parties, have been sending out applications.

She says those mailings are legal and the application forms are legitimate, but she points out that they did not come from the Pulaski County Election Office. Anyone who’s already requested an absentee ballot does not need to do anything else. The election board will start mailing ballots out to those voters by September 19.

Behny told the county commissioners Tuesday that her office has already gotten about 200 requests for absentee ballots, and she’s prepared for more. She said the election board has passed a resolution to start counting absentee ballots at 6:00 a.m. on Election Day.

Those eligible to vote by mail have until October 22 to request an absentee ballot. That can be done online at IndianaVoters.com or by filling out an application and mailing it to the Clerk’s Office at 112 E Main Street, Room 230, Winamac, IN 46996. For more information, call the Pulaski County Clerk’s Office at 574-946-3313. Voters in Starke County can call their Clerk’s Office at 574-772-9160.

The Pulaski County Commissioners also approved the election board’s request to close the courthouse to the public on Election Day.
