Ohio Man Arrested on Drug Dealing Charge Following Traffic Stop

Andre McCoy

A Cleveland, Ohio man was arrested on the I-80/90 Toll Road on Wednesday, Sept. 9 following a traffic stop initiated by an officer working in the Domestic Highway Enforcement Program in La Porte County.

The officer spotted a vehicle traveling in the passing lane with no other vehicles around and the driver reportedly committed a traffic infraction after the officer began following the vehicle in question.  During a traffic stop near the 52-mile marker, Deputy Jon Samuelson deployed his K9 partner Bosco to conduct a free-air sniff around the exterior of the vehicle and alerted to the presence of narcotics, according to the report.  A search of the vehicle allegedly uncovered several packages commonly associated with the transportation of illegal narcotics as well as a large amount of cash.

Police say the content of the packages was processed and found to be a cocaine.

Andre D. McCoy, 61, was arrested and booked into the La Porte County Jail on a preliminary charge of dealing in cocaine, a Level 2 Felony.  He remains housed in the jail and is being held on a $50,005.00 cash-only bond through Superior Court I.

Deputy Andy Morse, Deputy Josh Smith, Deputy Ryan Elcock and Deputy Evan Doperalski assisted at the scene.

Suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
