The Starke County Election Board members unanimously approved a motion this week to change the way workers are paid who participate in the early voting process.
The workers are considered seasonal employees at the county level and the board members determined that it would be better to pay them with a daily stipend rather than pay them as hourly workers. The board members want to avoid running into overtime issues.
In a specially-called Starke County Council meeting Friday morning, the council members approved the change, but County Attorney Marty Lucas will look into the matter to make sure it falls in line with labor laws and the Starke County Employee Handbook.
