The North Judson-San Pierre School Corporation says another one of its students has tested positive for COVID-19. Superintendent Dr. Annette Zupin reported the case Friday. She says both this one and the one reported Thursday involved students at the junior/senior high school.
Once again, Zupin says close contacts have been notified, and health officials’ guidance is being followed. She adds that fall break will give school staff a chance to thoroughly clean the buildings, but she also urges families to be vigilant about social distancing with people outside their households.
The superintendent outlined the school’s role when it comes to contact tracing in a letter to the community Friday. Dr. Zupin explained that when a student or staff member tests positive, the schools work with local health officials to identify close contacts among students and staff members. That includes working with the person who’s tested positive to discuss interactions and review their activity history.
A close contact is someone who’s been within six feet of an infected person for a total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period. Zupin says that once someone is identified as a close contact, they’re given instructions on how to quarantine and monitor their symptoms.
In her letter, Zupin promised to update the public whenever a new positive case is reported, but only after school officials complete their investigation. You can also find COVID-19 data from schools around the state on the Indiana Department of Health’s dashboard, but it’s only updated once a week.
