Hamlet’s New Message Board Up and Running after Years of Planning

After more than two years of planning and discussion, the Town of Hamlet now has an electronic message board. It’s been installed in front of the town hall, near the corner of Starke and Pearl streets.

During Wednesday’s park board meeting, President Dave Kesvormas said it’s a positive aspect for the community. “I haven’t had anybody complain about it other than the one you mentioned that was saying it was a little too bright,” Kesvormas said, “but it looks very good. Kevin and everybody did a really nice job.”

For now, it’s being used to display trick-or-treat and leaf pickup information, but town officials will also be able to start charging residents to post custom messages, such as birthdays, anniversaries, or local events. Clerk-Treasurer Kristina Pitts said she plans to have a policy ready for the board’s approval next month.

Between the brick base and the message board itself, Kesvormas said the sign ended up costing the town less than $3,000.
