Knox City Council Approves Resolution for CARES Act Spending

The Knox City Council passed a resolution last week allowing CARES Act funding to be used to reimburse public safety payroll costs. Mayor Dennis Estok reminded council members that the city got almost $115,000 to spend on COVID-19-related expenses, but said the guidelines for spending it had changed.

“You can use it to reimburse your payroll, or you can actually transfer it, put it, appropriate it to the General Fund and then you can use it for about anything you want,” he explained.

Estok said the new guidelines give the city more time and flexibility to determine what exactly to do with the money. Besides payroll, some ideas he’s previously mentioned include technology upgrades, and a new security system for the park. The mayor’s also asking the city’s superintendents for a list of their departments’ needs.
