Leaf pickup is starting in many local communities, if it hasn’t already. The City of Knox starts picking up leaves today. “Make sure everybody puts their leaves out by the curbs,” Mayor Dennis Estok told the city council last week. “No sticks or limbs or anything like that can be in it.”
Knox residents are also reminded not to place leaves in the alley and not to bag the leaves. Branches and limbs are picked up each Thursday, but the city will not collect brush from professional tree removal jobs.
Estok said the SCILL Center will once again rake leaves for Knox residents who are elderly or have physical disabilities. “They want to limit it to about 15 people, 15 yards,” he explained. “So it will be first-come, first-served. Depending if they have time to do more, then we will keep everybody on the list.”
Those who’d like the SCILL Center’s help should call the Mayor’s Office at 574-772-4553 by November 16.
Meanwhile, the Town of Hamlet plans to pick up leaves every Wednesday through November 25.
