Knox Mayor Dennis Estok continues exploring the possibility of tearing down the former Moose Lodge. He told the redevelopment commission last week that to keep the building, the roof would need to be replaced, and making the building ADA-compliant would take a lot of money.
If the state once again has money available for blight clearance next year, Estok’s recommendation is to tear it down and keep the land for some future use.
The mayor said he had considered auctioning the building’s contents, but he’s since decided against that. “That stuff is so nasty, smells, stinks, filthy,” he said. Estok said he’s thrown out some things and given others away, while a few items may be brought to the Nancy J. Dembowski Community Center.
