Social distancing guidelines may even apply to Santa Claus. Knox Mayor Dennis Estok told the city council Tuesday that he still hasn’t decided whether or not to hold this year’s Peppermint Parade.
“If we have anything, it’s just going to bring Santa Claus in, in a parade,” Estok explained. “There’ll be nothing else. We can’t give out hot chocolate. We can’t let the kids sit on Santa’s lap.”
Estok said the city will send letters out to businesses to gauge interest, and he’s looking for recommendations from residents about how to hold the parade safely. “We have to make a decision here shortly because it’s not that far off,” he added, “and it does take work to organize.”
The Peppermint Parade is typically held the first Saturday in December. The Knox Mayor’s Office can be reached at 574-772-4553.
