Knox Schools to Use CARES Act Funding to Offer Teacher Stipends

Knox school officials have finalized the 2020-2021 teacher contract. The school board ratified the document of agreement last week, following almost unanimous approval from the Knox Federation of Teachers, according to Superintendent Dr. William Reichhart.

It calls for a $1,000 stipend for teachers rated “effective” or “highly-effective.” “We will be taking this money from the CARES Act money that we received from the federal government to give teachers a stipend this year,” Reichhart explains. “There won’t be any increase in the base pay, but it will be a $1,000 stipend.”

Reichhart notes that most teachers will also be eligible for the annual Teacher Appreciation Grant, which typically amounts to $500 to $700.

The school board also accepted a total of $450 in donations for athletics from Mr. and Mrs. Shaun Dougherty, Keep Movin’ Milkshakes, and Dr. Tom Wunder.
