Three officers from the La Porte County Sheriff’s Department were the recipients of the first-ever Traffic Safety All-Star award.
The award is given to an officer who has made at least 20 operating while intoxicated arrests in the previous year and participated in one of the state’s targeted enforcement campaigns.
In 2019, Dan Kesling had 28 arrests, Joshua Smith had 28 arrests and Austin Wells had 70 arrests.
The Traffic Safety All-Star awards program was created by Indiana Criminal Justice Institute as a way to recognize law enforcement officers who go above and beyond to keep communities safe by working to combat impaired driving.
