Oregon-Davis to Switch to Virtual Learning due to COVID-19

The Oregon-Davis School Corporation is switching to virtual learning starting Wednesday. In a letter to community members, Superintendent Bill Bennett says two students at the junior/senior high school have tested positive for COVID-19. On top of that, multiple staff members currently have to quarantine, after being identified as close contacts of COVID-19 cases either at home or at school.

Virtual learning will continue until fall break. In-person learning is expected to resume on October 19.

Bennett says that during virtual learning, parents will be able to drop their children off at the elementary school, where staff will be available to supervise and assist them from 7:00 a.m. to 2:20 p.m. Those students will get breakfast and lunch, but transportation will not be provided. Families will also be able to pick up bagged lunches at the school starting Thursday.

At this point, Bennett says varsity girl’s volleyball and cross country will still be allowed to compete, as long as coaching staff is available.

He adds that Oregon-Davis continues to follow the Starke County Health Department’s guidance, as well as its reopening plan. Contact tracing is underway, and students identified as close contacts are required to quarantine for 14 days.
