Starke County Council, Commissioners Get Update on WorkOne Efforts

Linda Woloshansky updated the Starke County Council and Starke County Commissioners on how Work One is working for the residents of Starke County in placing people in employment.

She noted that the organization has an 82.6 percent placement rate and a 78.4 percent retention rate. The average wage of placed workers is about $15.00 an hour.

They work with residents to find skills to develop training for workers or to guide people in a direction to be career successful.  WorkOne receives federal funding to assist Starke County and has overseen $200 million over 20 years in the county.  No funding is provided by Starke County for the partnership.

Woloshansky said WorkOne works closely with the SCILL Center as it provides technical skills to residents locally, specifically welders.  They also work with the Starke County Economic Development Foundation to work together to find the right fit for residents to find a job.

The commissioners did unanimously approve an agreement with WorkOne and the Northwest Indiana Workforce Board to continue the partnership with the county.
