The City of Knox is asking downtown business owners for their help in getting a Main Street designation. Mayor Dennis Estok told the city council last week that while the city wants to pursue the designation, it can’t do it alone.
“Being a Main Street takes a lot of the private sector, too, and the public, to actually do it,” Estok said. “You know, we have a small hand in it, but it really takes the business owners and some of the public and all of that to form the partnership and do that.”
A Main Street designation would open up grant opportunities for downtown revitalization. The process typically involves forming a nonprofit organization, and setting up committees to oversee the four focus areas of organization, promotion, design, and economic vitality.
Those interested in helping out can attend an informational meeting tomorrow at the Nancy. J. Dembowski Community Center.
