Heavy lake effect snow will impact travel in La Porte and Starke Counties today through Tuesday morning.
The National Weather Service placed the two counties under a winter storm warning that will be in effect until 8 a.m. CT Tuesday. Bands of heavy lake effect snow could produce up to eight inches of snow. Winds gusting up to 40 mph will cause blowing and drifting snow through Tuesday morning and will make travel difficult with reduced visibilities.
If travel is necessary, keep a winter preparedness kit in the vehicle that includes extra blankets, an extra flashlight and batteries, food, and water.
