LaPorte City Police Respond to Two Shootings Sunday

LaPorte City Police are investigating, after two shootings were reported on Sunday. Two people were reportedly taken to South Bend Memorial Hospital with gunshot wounds, after officers were called to a disturbance at around 3:00 a.m. in a parking lot across the street from Mickey’s Bar & Grill, according to a statement from the Mayor’s Office.

Then around 1:00 p.m., police were called to an apparent drive-by shooting at a vacant apartment in the 200 block of Jefferson Avenue, where two houses ended up getting hit. Police Chief Paul Brettin says officers don’t know whether the two shootings were connected.

Mayor Tom Dermody says the city is outraged by Sunday’s shootings. He adds that violence of any kind will not be tolerated. Anyone with information is asked to call LaPorte City Police at 219-362-9446.
