New Round of Restrictions on LaPorte County Bars, Restaurants, Stores Takes Effect Monday

LaPorte County bars and restaurants will have to stop offering self-service buffets and salad bars, and only six customers will be allowed per table. It’s part of a new order from the county health officer taking effect Monday, in response to the surge in COVID-19 cases. The order also requires bars and restaurants to close by midnight and bans karaoke.

Meanwhile, retail stores will have to limit customers based on the amount of square footage available. Stores up to 2,000 square feet will be limited to five customers at a time.

Inspectors from the cities of LaPorte and Michigan City may be used to help the LaPorte County Health Department with enforcement. The county health officer also encourages the public to report non-compliance by calling the department’s COVID-19 hotline at 219-362-2525
