A public hearing to take comments on a rezoning request for 800 acres of farmland in California and North Bend Townships in Starke County is scheduled for tonight at 5:30 p.m. CT at the Nancy J. Dembowski Community Center in Knox.

The land is currently zoned residential, but the use is largely agricultural.

The proposed rezoning request by Starke Solar, LLC could lead to the installation of solar panels.

The Starke County Planning Commission members are hosting the public hearing and they ask residents to limit comments to two minutes.  President Roger Chaffins commented during the last meeting that speakers should not have repetitive comments, but possibly offer new information when called upon to comment.

The Starke County Planning Commission could make a decision on the rezoning request tonight.  If the recommendation is favorable, the final determination would be left to the Starke County Commissioners at a public meeting.
