A suspect was reportedly shot by LaPorte County Police Thursday. Indiana State Police say the Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of shots fired in the 7000 block of County Road 500 West, at around 5:15 p.m. When they got there, officers say they were immediately met by gunfire, and a police vehicle was struck. Officers reportedly shot back, hitting the suspect.
The suspect was later found with a gunshot wound, according to state police. The individual was taken to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Michigan City with non-life-threatening injuries. No officers were hurt.
The Indiana State Police Criminal Investigations Division is investigating the incident, at the request of LaPorte County Sheriff John Boyd. State police say the names of the officers will be released at a later date. Information about the suspect will be released once charges are filed with the LaPorte County Prosecutor’s Office.
The Michigan City, Long Beach, and Trail Creek police departments also responded to the scene, along with the Springfield Township Fire Department, and LaPorte County EMS.
