West Central Middle/High School to Resume In-Person Classes Wednesday, Elementary School to Use Remote Learning

Classes resume at West Central on Wednesday, but elementary school students will be learning remotely.

In a letter to families Tuesday, Superintendent Dan Zylstra said West Central Middle/High School will fully reopen for in-person classes Wednesday. But the elementary school will use remote learning at least until the end of the week and likely into next week.

Zylstra says there still isn’t enough staff available for in-person instruction, due to COVID-19 quarantines. The internet issues that have hit the Francesville area were expected to be resolved by Tuesday evening, allowing the school to use remote learning.

Students’ devices will be available for pickup starting Wednesday morning at 8:00 EST. Families can also pick up three days’ worth of meals on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Parents are asked to let school officials know ahead of time how many meals they’ll be picking up.

A staff member recently tested positive for COVID-19. Zylstra stresses that there are no known instances of COVID-19 spread at the school corporation. He says the quarantines are the result of a few outside cases.
