West Shore Drive Residents in Culver Provide Feedback on Renaming Road

A survey was sent to the handful of residents who live on an access road known as West Shore Drive in Culver to gather opinions on whether or not to rename the road.

The road is not officially named West Shore Drive, but that is what it is commonly referred to by Culver residents in the Chadwick Shores area.

The biggest concern for naming the road would be for Marshall County Sheriff’s Department dispatchers and local emergency personnel to get to a residence in an emergency.  The county’s GIS system shows the area as West Shore Drive, but GPS does not navigate to a specific area.  With the turnover rate with emergency personnel and maybe not being familiar with Culver, the council members thought the road should be formally identified.

The residents who reside there commented that they would rather have it stay as West Shore Drive so they don’t have to go through the hassle of changing addresses on many documents.

Town Manager Jonathan Leist said INDOT would be notified of the change.

In the end, the Culver Town Council agreed to leave the name as West Shore Drive and erect a sign in that area to formally identify that street.
