Pulaski County will soon be testing its jail inmates for COVID-19. Sheriff Jeff Richwine told the county commissioners Monday that his department has gotten some rapid tests from the Indiana Department of Correction, and now the jailers are being trained how to use them.
“So by the end of next week, at the latest, I think we’ll be able to test in the jail and new people coming into the jail and employees of the jail,” Richwine said.
The sheriff said he’s also looking at buying a new air purification system with commissary revenues. “I think it would be very nice,” he told the commissioners. “You could hook it up to the HVAC system, or you can buy, like, room ones, and so, we’re looking at, maybe doing it in the booking, the dispatch, and back in the pod.”
The sheriff pointed out that Pulaski County has agreements with neighboring sheriff’s offices to maintain coverage, if COVID-19 were to create a shortage in jailers, deputies, or dispatchers.
