Starke County Commissioners Look to Make Appointments for New Year

The Starke County Commissioners will make several appointments to various boards and commissions when they meet for the first time in 2021.

The commissioners will reorganize with new member Mark Gourley who was elected to the board in November.  They will also appoint three members to the Starke County Drainage Board, the Starke-Pulaski Drainage Board and the Marshall-Starke Drainage Board.

Commissioner liaisons for the Starke County Jail, Courthouse and Annex, Highway Department, EMS and Landfill will be assigned.

The commissioners will also make appointments to the Economic Development Board, KIRPC Board, Arrowhead Board, Workforce Development Board, Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, Health Board, Starke County Library Board, Aviation Board, Hospital Community Board, Alcoholic Beverage Board, Solid Waste Board, PTABOA Board, LEPC Board, Emergency Management Board, and the FEMA Board.

Consideration will also be given to the Building Corporation and the Starke County Park Board, Safety Committee and Records Committee.

Auditor Rachel Oesterreich is a member of the Internal Controls Committee by virtue of her office, but the commissioners have two appointments to that committee to consider.

The commissioners will sit on the Building Code Review Board and the Finance Board by virtue of their office.

The commissioners will know for sure at their January 4 meeting what seats need to be filled depending on a current holder’s desire to return for another term.  Starke County residents may be called upon to put forth a letter of interest to serve.
