The Starke County Commissioners will be working with Edwin Buswell from KIRPC to help the county apply for the third round of COVID-19 response grant funding.
In this round, the county could apply for up to $250,000. The eligible activities include mental health services, childcare services, public WiFi locations, food pantry or bank services, subsidence payment programs, or grants or loans to businesses to retain low-to-moderate (LMI) jobs.
Buswell told the commissioners that if the county is successful in obtaining grant funds, then they could apply the money toward more than one of their desired activities in the list available.
WiFi locations, food pantry or bank services and business grants or loans were mentioned as possible interested activities the commissioners would like to fund, but intentions will be detailed in the application.
Proposals are due Friday, January 29, 2021, with applications due by Friday, February 26. Award winners will be announced April 1.
Additionally, during Monday’s commissioners meeting, the commissioners did hold a second public hearing on the $75,000 previously awarded for use in the Starke County Government Mobile Food Delivery Program. All expenses have been reimbursed. No public comments were made during the public hearing.
