Firefighters from the San Pierre Fire Department and the North Judson-Wayne Township Fire Department were called to a structure fire at 500 S. and 650 W. at about 4:40 p.m. CT Sunday afternoon.

A fire had started in an addition portion of the home, but an exact cause has not been determined at this time, according to North Judson-Wayne Township Fire Chief Joe Leszek.  San Pierre Fire Chief Chad Schmacher did not comment on the incident.

According to the fire department’s Facebook post, while responding to the scene, a North Judson-Wayne Township tanker went off the road and turned on its side due to the icy road conditions. There were no injuries.

Another responding tanker was able to proceed to the scene.

According to the fire department’s Facebook post, tanker trucks found an alternate route to the scene in order to fight the fire.

Leszek said everyone in the home escaped the fire as well as the animals inside.  The American Red Cross was called to assist the family.

Firefighters were on the scene for about four hours.  The scene was turned over to the San Pierre Fire Department.

Starke County EMS also responded to the scene.
