The Oregon-Davis School Corporation is raising the pay for its support staff. “We raised our minimum starting pay to $9.50 an hour,” says Superintendent Bill Bennett, “and for those employees who are making over $9.50, they received a 25-cent-per-hour raise.”
Bennett says the raise for non-certified staff was approved during the school board’s December meeting. Those employees will also get a $500 one-time stipend.
When the board met again this week, Bennett says members agreed to give teachers and staff until the end of March to use any remaining COVID-related leave. Otherwise, it would have already expired December 31.
“If a staff member becomes ill with COVID or needs to take care of someone with COVID or their child were to lose childcare or their school were to close, it would allow that staff member to take care of that child and miss work, with full compensation for 10 days and then two-thirds compensation, then, for the next 10 weeks,” Bennett explains.
He says the goal is to make sure no staff member has to go without pay or dip into the sick bank.
