Delivering a baby in a semi truck on the side of the Indiana Toll Road is how one state trooper spent his Friday afternoon. Indiana State Police say Trooper Thomas Maymi was observing traffic while parked near the 52 mile-marker in LaPorte County. A truck stopped, and a man got out and ran across the highway asking for help for his pregnant wife.
Trooper Maymi called for an ambulance but realized there wasn’t enough time to get her to the hospital. He helped the woman with her contractions until paramedics arrived. Two minutes after they got there, baby Malaki Thomas Robertson was born, the middle name in honor of the trooper who helped deliver him, Thomas Maymi.
Police say Malaki and his parents, Shaniqua Traywick and Carl Robertson, are all doing well. In the state police press release, Maymi congratulated the parents, saying he was glad he was in the right place at the right time, while Traywick said “We were all troopers that day!”
