Two people were arrested on drug charges in the overnight hours Saturday after a traffic stop conducted by La Porte County Sheriff’s Department.

Police say a traffic stop was initiated after an officer found a license plate not visible on a passing vehicle traveling on Franklin Street, north of County Road 400 North.  During the traffic stop, the officer reportedly discovered that the temporary license plate was not properly secured and the registration did not match that vehicle.

Michigan City Police Department Officer Michael Petrie and his K9 partner Edo were called to scene when the Edo provided a positive alert to the presence of narcotics, according to the report.  A search of the vehicle reportedly uncovered illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia.

The driver, 24-year-old Susan D. Hopper, of Warsaw, was arrested on preliminary charges of dealing in a narcotic drug as a Level 2 Felony and possession of a hypodermic syringe as a Level 6 Felony.  She is being held in the La Porte County Jail on a $50,005 cash-only bond through Superior Court 1. She has contacted a traffic attorney for guidance on the case.

The passenger, 28-year-old Blake J. Brown, of South Bend, was arrested on preliminary Level 6 Felony charges of possession of a narcotic drug, and possession of a hypodermic syringe.   He is being held in the La Porte County Jail without bond.

Suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
