Wanted LaPorte Man Arrested after Allegedly Trying to Drag Race Sheriff’s Deputy

Trying to drag race a sheriff’s deputy reportedly landed a LaPorte man in jail Wednesday morning. The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office says it happened around 1:15 a.m. on U.S. 35 on the south side of LaPorte.

Jonathon F. Krueger, 26, allegedly passed another vehicle, let it catch up, revved his SUV’s engine, then sped off and slowed down again two more times. But it turned out the other car was a police vehicle driven by LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office Captain Andy Hynek. The highway was covered in snow at the time.

It also turned out that Krueger’s license was suspended, according to police, and he was reportedly wanted for criminal mischief, public intoxication, and failure to appear. Now, Krueger is also accused of operating while intoxicated. He’s being held without bond at the LaPorte County Jail.
