Another 35 Hoosiers have died while positive for COVID-19, according to Sunday’s update from the Indiana Department of Health. That brings the total to 11,947 or 12,372 if probable deaths are included. The newly-reported deaths took place over the past several weeks, with one dating back to December. Another 888 positive cases were reported, with the state total now approaching 656,000.
Locally, Marshall County reported eight new cases. Starke County had six, and Pulaski County had two. The seven-day positivity rate for all tests is now at 2.6 percent in Marshall County, 7.6 percent in Starke County, and five percent in Pulaski County.
Sunday’s update was delayed by two hours due to what the Indiana Department of Health called a technical issue, with county-level breakdowns coming even later.
Meanwhile, local residents continue to get the COVID-19 vaccine. More than 5,400 Marshall County residents have gotten the first dose as of Sunday morning, along with almost 2,400 in Starke County and almost 1,800 in Pulaski County. The number of residents fully vaccinated is approaching 2,900 in Marshall County and 1,100 in Pulaski County, while Starke County is up to 846.
