The City of Knox is taking steps to boost its chances of getting more COVID-19 relief for local businesses. The city council voted last week to allocate $10,000 in Economic Development Income Tax revenues as a local match for the city’s COVID-19 Response Program grant application.
City Council President Jeff Berg noted that this third phase of the program is more competitive. “We don’t know how many are going to be awarded or whatever, but putting bank into this is worthwhile tonight,” Berg said. “It’s worthwhile for the City of Knox, Indiana and for the future of our businesses here.”
Knox plans to seek $200,000 through the state. Providing the five-percent local match will add points to the city’s application. Locally, Starke and Pulaski counties and the towns of North Judson and Winamac are also applying for funding.
