The frigid forecast has prompted some reminders from local officials. Knox Mayor Dennis Estok urges pet owners not to leave animals outside during extreme weather conditions.
A city ordinance lets officials enforce the humane treatment of animals and fine pet owners found to be in violation, according to a city press release. At the very least, pets should have sufficient food and water and be in a structure that protects them from the elements and lets them stand, sit, and lie down without restriction.
Meanwhile, the Town of North Judson urges its residents to let their water trickle to keep meters and service lines from freezing. In a Facebook post Tuesday, officials said North Judson’s ordinances allow for a credit on residents’ sewer bills.
