Knox Seeking Blight Clearance Funding for Moose Lodge Demolition

Efforts to demolish the former Knox Moose Lodge continue to move ahead. The city council last week agreed to let Mayor Dennis Estok apply for Blight Clearance Program funding through the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs.

Estok said that while he hates to see the building come down, it would take a lot of money to make it usable, and the city’s main reason for buying it was future land use. “There’s no ventilation over there,” Estok told council members. “There’s front windows. That’s about it. Just mold. Mold, mold, mold, mold, mold. And between the filth and the mold, you’d better have a mask on in there.”

As part of the application process, Estok said the city will have to get an engineer’s report. He said they’ll also have to come up with a plan of what to do with the property and have five years to carry it out.
