Firefighters from the North Judson-Wayne Township Fire Department were called to a house fire at about 2 p.m. CT Friday in the area of 260 W. in North Judson.
They were able to attack the fire where it could be seen at the rear of the house upon arrival, according to the fire department’s Facebook page. Soon, other firefighters could help extinguish the fire from the front entrance.
The report also stated that Starke County EMS crews were able to assist the owner’s 15-year-old cat, Tom Tom, with oxygen from one of two available animal oxygen mask kits that are carried on two response vehicles. The EMS and fire personnel stayed with the cat in a fire truck for about 15 minutes before being returned to his owners. Officials believe Tom Tom will make a full recovery.
The masks were given to fire department from the North Central Veterinary Emergency Center in the last few years.
No other information about the fire was released.
