Terry Stephenson apparently left his position as Starke County Building Commissioner at the end of January.
In January, Stephenson had asked the Starke County Commissioners and Starke County Council members in a public meeting why he was terminated as Building Commissioner in December by the Starke County Planning Commission which led to a larger discussion concerning certain actions of individuals. After more consideration, the commissioners eventually allowed him to return to the position, but later clarified the chain of command when it comes to authority over hiring and firing in the Starke County Planning and Zoning Office. That authority was determined to be left up to the Starke County Planning Commission.
Stephenson then left at the end of January.
The open position is expected to be posted on the Starke County government website.
During their meeting last week, the Starke County Commissioners reviewed job descriptions for the staff in the Planning Commission office including planning and zoning administrator, building commissioner, and code enforcement officer, and Board of Zoning Appeals secretary.
The building commissioner will work under the general supervision of the Starke County Planning Commission Board, while all other positions will be under the general supervision of the building commissioner.
The job descriptions were passed with a unanimous vote.
