The west entrance to the Winamac Town Park could soon become a little safer. Town manager and park board member Brad Zellers told the rest of the board Thursday that the town plans to apply for a Community Crossings Grant to ease the slope of Main Street east of Riverside Drive.
“We’re going to try to take, back to the alley by Frain’s, cut that down about three-and-a-half foot, and get rid of the sharp hill,” Zellers explained. “We’ll widen it out the same as it is up above clear down.”
Zellers also said that after months of waiting, he’s finally gotten the necessary permit to install riprap near the “swinging bridge.” It’s one of a few maintenance items being planned, ahead of the bridge’s centennial – and the planned installation of a decorative lighting feature – in 2023.
Thursday’s Winamac Park Board meeting was the first for new member Renee Calabrese. She was appointed by the town council to replace Jon Chapman, who did not seek reappointment. The Pulaski County Public Library Board is expected to appoint one of its members to replace Pat Bawcum, who no longer serves on the library board.
Chris Schramm was elected park board president. Steve Miller is vice-president. Park Board Secretary Kim Burke and Attorney Justin Schramm were both reappointed.
