Officers from the Starke County Sheriff’s Department, Starke County EMS, and fire personnel were called to several accidents Monday afternoon as a result of inclement weather.
Several injuries were reported in a rollover crash on U.S. 30 west of U.S. 35. A man driving a red pickup truck towing a passenger vehicle on a trailer lost control, causing the truck to flip upside down, according to the report. Three children had to be extricated from the vehicle by firefighters. Police say the driver, Keith Dunigan, an adult passenger, Sharmae Perkins, and the young children were taken to Northwest Health Starke for medical evaluations.
Meanwhile, a three-vehicle accident caused only one injury on State Road 8 near 800 East in Starke County. Police say a Buick driven by Alexander Carlson was traveling west when it crossed over in the eastbound lanes of State Road 8 causing a collision. The eastbound driver, Jeffery Nipper of Plymouth, was transported to a South Bend hospital for his injuries. The family has contacted personal injury lawyers for guidance. Another eastbound vehicle that was attempting to avoid the accident went off the road and into a field. That driver was not injured. Police say roadway surface conditions were factors in both crashes Monday afternoon.
