A La Porte man died of injuries sustained in a Friday afternoon accident in the area of U.S. 35 and Nicomas Path in La Porte County.
Police say the accident happened just before 3:30 p.m. CT when a 2003 Honda Accord driven by 24-year-old Eric A. Adair of Michigan City went left of center for an unknown reason and began traveling south on U.S. 35.
Adair’s vehicle collided head-on with a 2007 Toyota Camry driven by 32-year-old Nathan Blout of La Porte just south of Nicomas Path, according to the report.
As a result of the collision, Adair’s vehicle reportedly traveled across both lanes and came to rest on the driver’s side along the northbound shoulder, according to police. Adair was pinned inside the vehicle and he was extricated from the vehicle. Police say Adair sustained an upper body injury and was airlifted to a regional hospital for treatment.
Blount was trapped inside his vehicle and required extrication. Blount sustained a lower body injury and was airlifted to a regional hospital for treatment, according to the report. Police say they learned Saturday morning that Blout died of his injuries.
Toxicology tests are pending and the accident investigation remains open.
