The Winamac Town Park could soon be getting a public art installation, thanks to a local volunteer group. The town’s park board Thursday agreed to let the Pulaski County Tribe continue planning for a project it calls Art in the Park.
Group representative Brandi Larkin said it will involve aesthetic improvements to the historic artesian well, a new interpretive sign highlighting its history, and a metal lighted silhouette. “We want to give the artisans some leeway to present options to us, so the way we’re going to frame it is something that’s going to highlight the natural resources of Pulaski County and we can build upon,” Larkin told board members.
Once artists present options, Larkin said the public will be able to vote on which one should be installed. The new features would be dedicated during an Art in the Park event that would feature free craft activities and additional art displays. “Maybe children’s artwork depicting our natural resources or an amateur photography contest or some paintings on display, somehow artwork in a variety of mediums that highlights Pulaski County and our natural resources on display,” Larkin explained.
Larkin said the Pulaski County Tribe will be pursuing grants and raising funds to pay for the project. The group plans to get to work in May, with the goal of having the project ready for dedication in the spring or summer of 2022.
