Six fire departments responded to a brush fire in the area of 125 N. and 150 N. in Washington Township Tuesday afternoon.
Fire crews were on the scene from just before 1 p.m. to just after 6 p.m. CT battling what reportedly started to be a controlled burn. The fire ended up burning through approximately 25 acres of brush and woods, according to fire officials.
The Washington Township Fire Department was called to the scene along with the Koontz Lake Fire Department, Knox-Center Township Fire Department, Walkerton Fire Department, Polk Township Fire Department, and Hamlet-Davis Township Fire Department. Firefighters from the Bass Lake-California Township Fire Department were on stand-by with a brush truck.
Not long after fire crews left this scene, Washington Township firefighters were called to a ditch fire in the area of 800 E. and 150 S., but the fire was quickly extinguished.
Firefighters urge residents to be mindful of weather conditions before starting any controlled burns.
