Residents visiting the Starke County Treasurer’s Office will soon get quicker service after the commissioners approved the purchase of new software and licenses for the Treasurer’s Office.
Treasurer Lauri Venckus explained that the system she has dates back to 2012 and it not longer properly serves the needs of her office. When people come into conduct business, the program often freezes up and takes a long time to reboot in order for it to work, she stated. She added that she has had to take down a taxpayer’s phone number to call the person back in order to get the program to reboot which she indicated was embarrassing.
Commissioner Mark Gourley, who used to work on the county’s computer systems, said the Treasurer’s Office has one of the oldest systems and agreed it needed to be upgraded. He suggested removing the costs of monitors as they should be adequate.
The commissioners approved the cost of just over $1,100 for the software and licenses to be paid out of the Cumulative Capital Development Fund.
