Voting for people in wheelchairs will become easier after a decision made by the Starke County Election Board last week
Clerk Bernadette Manuel asked the board to consider purchasing legs for at least one voting booth at each Vote Center to provide a more manageable voting experience for voters in wheelchairs. The legs are wider and can be adjusted for height to allow for an easier, secure way for physically challenged voters to cast a ballot.
Currently, a voting machine is placed on a tabletop to assist the voters, but Manuel believes this will be more accessible and secure.
The quote from Microvote was approved and it will come out of the county’s $4,011.67 in Help America Vote Act (HAVA) Grant funds.
