Testing has revealed the presence of asbestos in the Pulaski County Courthouse, but not as much as county officials may have expected. Courthouse project liaison Nathan Origer told the county commissioners that samples were taken from various locations inside and outside the historic building.
“And while they did acknowledge that there’re probably some places within cavities – wall cavities, ceiling cavities – where they could not access where there’s more insulation, in the 66 samples they took, they only found two cases of asbestos,” Origer reported, “both pipe insulation, both above the ceiling in the former Assessor’s Office in the basement.”
Origer said that no evidence of asbestos was found in the Justice Center at any place where disruption will occur. The county is still waiting for the results of mold, lead-based paint, and soil vapor tests.
